I am a UK resident who has never visited the Indian subcontinent.
However I do read various Pakistani newspapers online and have noticed mention of katchi abadi in many stories about Karachi.
According to sources found on the Internet, they are "dwellings consisting of makeshift mud or timber huts."

Most of these houses seem built like forts!
I am disappointed not one of them suggests that they are in Pakistan - I mean, not one has a dome or something oriental ... they look quite like the modern houses in Spain.

If you look closely -- there is some Islamic Architecture integrated in some of the designs. Some have decorative quranic text..
while others designs inspired by perhaps spanish architecture??
